Rodney!

1) When the piano teacher told Rodney that he was technically very proficient but he'd never make a professional, he went out into the garage and grabbed one of the rockets he'd made - the big one, the one he'd been saving for a really special occasion - and a heavy duty elastic band. He strapped the piece of music he'd been playing from to it and trudged into the woods behind his house where he set it off with a ridiculous bang that scared the neighbours to death and got another warning from the local police to his mum and dad. He'd have liked to have done that with all of his sheet music, but whatever Rodney does he does to excess and he'd never manage to build enough rockets. The rest of it went into an enormous bonfire that nearly set the forest aflame. (It's possible the local police station had his number on speed dial.)

2) He secretly always believed the piano teacher. Hated him, but believed him. One day, after a particularly harrowing escape and a last minute cobbling together of any spare parts lying around, after the shouting had stopped but before Rodney could actually haul himself to his feet and collapse face first into his bed for a few hours, Radek was poking at the device he'd made and shook his head, his voice half-awed and half-wry as he solemnly informed Rodney that he's an artist.

Rodney didn't burst into grateful tears, because that would be ridiculous, but it was a close-run thing.

3) Rodney doesn't equate sex and love. There's absolutely no need for the one to be related to the other, and just because he might have unfortunate feelings for one person, this doesn't have any bearing whatsoever on whether he sleeps with another.

Once he is actually in a relationship, though, he's strictly monogamous. Why risk pissing someone off and losing a steady source of sex? Not to mention that trying to keep one person happy is difficult enough. Two? Are you insane?
