May. 27th, 2007 09:26 pmA meme from
gramarye1971 because it's a lovely one and I owe the world music.
Comment below with a song request that you think I'd be able to provide, something like 'a song that reminds you of someplace you went on holiday when you were little' or 'a song that never fails to give you the shivers when you listen to it' or 'a song in a language you don't speak but would like to learn'.
I'm working on the first kisses, also, I promise. ;)

Date: 2007-05-27 08:40 pm (UTC)See, I know uncontrollable highs, and I know lows which are so difficult to deal with, but I can deal with the lows a little better because I know that moods like this exist and will come again. It's the way I get by. :D

Date: 2007-05-27 09:08 pm (UTC)I went to WOMAD festival - world of music and dance - and was volunteering for Oxfam. Three eight hour shifts over a weekend in exchange for a ticket to the festival, which was awesome because my flatmate and I were working on a tower right by a stage with a lot of awesome weird independent acts playing on. I spent a lot of time up my fire tower dancing.
Our duties were to look out for fires, keep in contact over the radio, look after lost kids and such. Smaller had a bit of a problem with actually getting up to the tower, sadly, so it was mostly her on the ground and me up on the tower, which I was fine with, but which got kinda chilly when it was dark and raining and such.
Two of our shifts ended at 4am, I think, and there was a tent next to where we were that was serving chai and the like until 2 - it was for all the performers and such. And it played really loud music until early in the morning.
One of the songs they played a lot was Ghost Writer (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=XEBLWH3K) by RJD2, and it never failed to make me dance, all alone, up on top of my firetower, ridiculously happy. Police types came over to talk to Smaller one night, asked if I was okay up there, whether I'd taken anything, which of course I hadn't - I love that, see. The fact that I can get ridiculous natural highs from music or TV or films or shared geeking. It's totally worth the low points. :D

Date: 2007-05-27 09:52 pm (UTC)Thing is, before emo was what it is now, it was a sideline of hardcore punk - emotional hardcore. My definition of emo is kinda... wearing canvas shoes and walking home in the rain because you missed the last bus home from hanging out with the girl who doesn't love you any more.
And the ultimate band for that, really, was The Promise Ring. My ex introduced me to them and they were a guilty pleasure because everyone else called him Eeyore and my workmate mocked pretty much all the music he liked.
Anyway, I don't have the album any more so I can't give you the song that actually said, appropriately whinily, "WHY COULDN'T YOU TAKE THE SECOND BUS HOME?" so instead I give you We Don't Like Romance. (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=IKZABENU)

It is hard to be really canvas shoes bus missing emo without words, because the obnoxious overstatement element is more subtle!
