Jan. 22nd, 2008 06:56 amOf course, this has left me wondering if my mother still reads my journal - I'm guessing yes. XD Hi mum!
First off, thanks to everyone who answered my poll. Very much appreciated. You guys are awesome. ;)
Clarification of what I was talking about, for those who are interested; and I'm leaving comments set to screened on this post, should you want to talk about it further at all.
Basically, I don't take issue with women who choose not to masturbate - of course I don't, it's a personal choice and none of my business. What I take issue with is a culture which implies that it's wrong to do so, and it's wrong to talk about it. I take issue with the fact that the majority of women I know have, but if I have ever mentioned it in conversation (which I have, because I have the decorum of a... something decorumless. Sorry, lost track of that simile somewhere in the middle) it is generally immediately denied if there are males present. I have also met women who seem genuinely surprised that it's even an option, which is both sad (in that they're missing out), depressing (in that no one's ever thought to mention it to them) and pretty worrying. If women genuinely aren't discovering masturbation, then is it any wonder that they start having sex at younger and younger ages? Seriously, am I making too much of a leap, here?
It's also fascinating from a standpoint of what is and is not appropriate conversation in public, too. The differing standards applied across the sexes. It makes me wonder what blokes talk about without females present, naturally. :D
I suspect I've forgotten to make points that I meant to, and if I've inadvertently offended anyone with the poll or this post then know that it was inadvertent.
