So how does one find out if one has a food intolerance? Is it a case of going to the doctor, or is it a case of cutting out certain foods until one seems to make a difference?
Yes, I'm an ignoramus. But I'm so cute!

this one offers advice on the approach and also the rotation diet:

one thing about food intolerance that I’ve seen rarely mentioned is that often it is not cut-and-dried, you might be intolerant to lactose but, for example, but you’ll be able to manage a small amount of lactose in hard cheese but cream-rich carbonara will hurt. This makes the exclusion diet a little more complicated.
If you’ve got a good doctor, I'd say definitely have a chat with them; there are medical tests available for some of the more well known intolerances. There are even tests available at Superdrug (and in health food shops) but I’m not too sure of their validity.
