I am going through a period of intense dislike of the internet, because it spends all its time making me want things I can't have. Yes, adverts, and Amazon, and Ebay, and what have you, but mostly just proximity. I'm sick of time zones, okay, and not being able to phone people, or hug people, or pop around for a cup of tea. The second parts apply equally for those folks in my own country; I'm sick of not being able to afford to spend time with my friends. I'm sick of feeling like an internet entity, not really real and switched off with the screen. I'm sick of F5 and not being able to articulate myself well enough in type and not being around at the right times. I'm sick of using it as an excuse for a lack of an RL social life, and I'm sick of you guys (you guys who I love ridiculously) not being close enough for that to be you.

Grr.

I have spent like the whole evening hanging out with a bottle of cheap Canadian whiskey and thinking more or less exactly this, and it's also frustrating because lately I've been feeling all kinds of lonely because my close friends are in Halifax or London or Toronto or Seattle and like...I know great people in Vancouver but not the same way. It's like,t here's this compatibility layer that I only seem to find by internet, and that's awesome, except then it's internet and they're far away.

I think people like the ones I meet and enjoy the company of on-line exist in real life but I have no idea how to find them there? is what I'm saying.

Seems oddly fitting that I'm reading this in a fit of insomnia... your thoughts hit very close to home. *hugs*

I wish I lived closer to you and had money and stuff so I could invade your life regularly. The internet has been one of the main ways we've kept in touch over the past few years and I'm grateful to it for that (I'd never have learned to use the iternet if it wasn't for you, let alone joined lj)but it's a poor shadow of friendship.
*pouts*

Ooh, meant to tell you last night, watched a 'Psych' about a jockey that I don't think I'd seen before! (It made me die laughing)
Write me Shawn and Gus fighting over the fan cooler in the office?

Word. I get so lonely sometimes for these very reasons. Technology is great, but in a way it also sucks the big one.

*sadfaces* Yes, I know exactly what you mean. I've been getting more and more lonely lately and I know I could go out and meet RL people but I never meet any that I like as much as internet people. Like at Meet the Hewletts last year? I clicked with so many people (like you! ♥) and could talk for hours and that never happens with regular RL people.

*trails off* Um, I'm sure I had a point when I started this comment. Possibly it was: *hugs*

You're welcome to visit me (i'm in newark on trent))! And Cheltenham isn't that far really!!! Or pick a city, a city must have coffee and sightseeing!

I know, for me LJ is a magical fandom place, but I miss a lot of people terribly!
