Oct. 19th, 2009 07:09 pmI've made some changes, to my userinfo and layout, and I'm pretty sure I'll be sticking around for a while, at least. I've just come to the realisation that I've mostly been watching my life, recently, rather than participating in it, so there'll be some changes around here. I'm going to be checking my flist strictly once a day and posting that often too, barring unexpected happenings. I'm going to be re-reading only once every five books, if that, so I stop hiding in my comfort zone. I'm going to say yes to things more often, when people invite me out. I'm going to attempt to take the first step in contact more often, and keep up regularly with emails and the like. I'm going to take a hell of a lot more of an active role in maintaining friendships, because I've been lazy in that. I'm going to work out/write/call someone today, rather than some steadily retreating tomorrow.
I just have to work out how to have conversations again, with people that don't already know me, and find areas of common ground that don't involve owning a TV. My lack of knowledge of X Factor is apparently a hindrance.

Date: 2009-10-19 06:29 pm (UTC)By which I mean: that all sounds very positive, and I promise there are things to talk about that aren't X-Factor. (I have never actually watched it, so I can attest to this. Also, being more outgoing doesn't need to me not being you: if X-Factor watching is not something you would enjoy or want to do, it is not a bad thing that you don't.)

Date: 2009-10-19 06:30 pm (UTC)Have you decided how you are going to relate to fandom yet? It would be a shame to lose you entirely, but I understand if you feel you need a clean break

Date: 2009-10-19 07:01 pm (UTC)I'm not watching any fanfic comms any more; I'm going to look for newsletter type things for the pairings/shows I like, plus I'll read the fic of the people I have friended, probably more than I usually do.

Date: 2009-10-19 08:39 pm (UTC)And yes, it always seems a bit ridiculous to me when people rely on "oh, have you seen this/that/the other?" to strike up a convo, and you haven't seen because you don't watch that particular show and aren't particularly interested. Same for me with "Merlin" - it sounds like a Robin Hoodie version of the Arthurian legends, and it may be stuffy of me to prefer the old version, but I do...

Date: 2009-10-20 08:24 pm (UTC)I think I might join the book club at work; I can't afford to buy the books, but my boss has offered me the borrowing of them once she's done, and it's a different set of conversational openers.
