I've made some changes, to my userinfo and layout, and I'm pretty sure I'll be sticking around for a while, at least. I've just come to the realisation that I've mostly been watching my life, recently, rather than participating in it, so there'll be some changes around here. I'm going to be checking my flist strictly once a day and posting that often too, barring unexpected happenings. I'm going to be re-reading only once every five books, if that, so I stop hiding in my comfort zone. I'm going to say yes to things more often, when people invite me out. I'm going to attempt to take the first step in contact more often, and keep up regularly with emails and the like. I'm going to take a hell of a lot more of an active role in maintaining friendships, because I've been lazy in that. I'm going to work out/write/call someone today, rather than some steadily retreating tomorrow.

I just have to work out how to have conversations again, with people that don't already know me, and find areas of common ground that don't involve owning a TV. My lack of knowledge of X Factor is apparently a hindrance.

This all sounds very good...and I'm very happy you'll be sticking around.

Thank you, sweetheart, and thanks again for the advice. Sometimes I need a little perspective, because I insist on the emo even though I'm almost entirely adult age now. XD

Aww, your mood icon. *smooshes you*

By which I mean: that all sounds very positive, and I promise there are things to talk about that aren't X-Factor. (I have never actually watched it, so I can attest to this. Also, being more outgoing doesn't need to me not being you: if X-Factor watching is not something you would enjoy or want to do, it is not a bad thing that you don't.)

I know that in theory, we just all seem to be at the getting to know each other phase at work, which leads to much discussion of what was on TV last night, which has never been my arena. Ah well - I've made a new friend who's awesome and I can talk to, and I'm trying to reconnect with and maintain the friendships with people that're important to me, so I'm doin okay.

(Obviously that includes you. At some point I'll phone again. ;))

That sounds very positive!

Have you decided how you are going to relate to fandom yet? It would be a shame to lose you entirely, but I understand if you feel you need a clean break

I'll be sticking with fandom; story posts don't count to a daily total, shoud there be any, and this just means that I'll be more careful about what I say about fandomy things, think about it more before I post, which can only be a good thing. Plus I'll totally discuss in other people's comments!

I'm not watching any fanfic comms any more; I'm going to look for newsletter type things for the pairings/shows I like, plus I'll read the fic of the people I have friended, probably more than I usually do.

*glomps* These all sound like excellent resolutions (and probably ones that I should be making myself). ♥

Good for you!

Also, having been forced to spend Saturday and Sunday watching X-Factor with the familials, I can honestly say you aren't missing anything except possibly twincest.

Yay, you! Figuring out a way to be yourself in the world is hard. So much luck with all of this, I'm selfishly glad you'll be sticking around these parts, I'd hate to lose you when I just got you.

Oh, and remember, be patient with yourself, it's okay to mess things up sometimes.

Thanks, darlin'. And I couldn't abandon LJ right now, not with new friends and new ridiculously slashy fandom. :D

And yes, it always seems a bit ridiculous to me when people rely on "oh, have you seen this/that/the other?" to strike up a convo, and you haven't seen because you don't watch that particular show and aren't particularly interested. Same for me with "Merlin" - it sounds like a Robin Hoodie version of the Arthurian legends, and it may be stuffy of me to prefer the old version, but I do...

From: [identity profile] villainny.livejournal.com
LOL Merlin is kind of awful, I realise that, but I can't seem to stop watching it. It's become a bit of a social event, though, I go out sometimes to watch it, and that's how I'm excusing it to myself. :D

I think I might join the book club at work; I can't afford to buy the books, but my boss has offered me the borrowing of them once she's done, and it's a different set of conversational openers.

That all sounds excellent, well done you, am glad you're sticking around.. if you want online chat I'm a friendly person on msn at times (er, I mean msn is on that times, not that I'm only occasionally friendly); think you want to spend time with people who've more conversational gambits then X factor, sheesh. The only reason I usually know anything about it is if [livejournal.com profile] forest has it on in the background but it drives me batty.

From: [identity profile] villainny.livejournal.com
Thank you for the offer! I totally suck at chat, though - I forget I'm talking to someone, or accidentally disconnect myself... plus I'm trying to spend a little less time on the 'net as a whole. And yeah, X-Factor makes my skin crawl; advertising on how mechanical the industry is doesn't exactly appeal.

Good for you. BTW, if you find the right people, it won't matter that you don't own a TV. (I don't. Granted, lots of my friends are morris dancers, so.)

This all sounds very smart! (Also, for me, the keeping tabs on what I read and trying to diversify and make sure I don't just stay in my comfort zone has been working out pretty well over this year! So I hope it works out for you too. :D)

I've got to get through all the books I already own, dammit! I still have boxes upon boxes that I've not even touched, from that time I was getting paid in books.
