Still doesn't really work, though, cause Charlie's got have been out of school for at least one full year before PS. Fred: "we haven't won the Quidditch Cup since Charlie left." (PS 114) That implies that not only has Charlie left school, he didn't just leave the June before; Gryffindor has to have lost the QC at least once since Charlie's been gone.
I suppose if you finagled it just-exactly-right, it might be 2 years and something like 11 months difference, but that seems overly complicated to me when you could just say "yeah, Charlie is 3/4 years older than Percy."
*shrugs* I dunno. JKR admitted she's not a math whiz before answering the question (I feel her pain) and she said in an earlier question that she didn't have her notebooks or anything in front of her.
