I've just read Toft's Mythbusters apocalypse fic In Search Of and wow. The writing was gorgeous, the emotions were intense and real, it scared the crap out of me and made me cry in the good way. I'm half way between terrified and in awe.

I don't know why I didn't remember how much apocalypse stories freak me out, though. When I was a littler peanut I used to read all the time, accidentally stealing 72 books from my school because I got through them too fast to remember about things like returning them. And some I remember, absolutely; I remember Diana Wynne Jones and Lois Duncan and L.J.Smith, and getting faintly freaked out by the mole sex in Duncton Wood, but it hadn't struck me before now how well I'd remembered the apocalypse stories. Plague 99, and John Wyndham, and Z for Zachariah which was possibly the one that scared the hell out of me first.

I think it's tied in to the way that it's always scariest when it's just the regular humans doing the evil things on supernatural shows, y'know?

I like your icon :D

I kind of love apocalypse fic. I didn't realize that the Mythbusters fandom was doing stuff like that though. I'd have thought that it would be all... funny stuff. *goes to poke around*

Aw, I'm glad you enjoyed? appreciated? experienced? it. Thank you for the rec :)

Weirdly, I was just about to comment to you because I've been massively enjoying your recording of 'Do Over'! I'm finding the sound quality a bit difficult because there's all this white noise and your voice is a little quiet in comparison to it, but I started listening to it on the train where I couldn't hear that stuff so much, and I'm enjoying it massively, you're bringing out way more humour in the story than I realized was there on reading it! I love about podfic that it brings out aspects of stories that I didn't get before. Your crafty!Rodney bullying John into sex is so hilarious. I was laughing out loud on the tube and trying not to attract weird looks.
