I believe in gay rights. I believe in equality generally, really. I believe in a lot of things, but very rarely strongly enough to actually do anything about it. (I don't really consider a meme to be 'doing something'.) Which is why I'm not putting a subject line to this post, and it's why I'm not c&ping the quote, because I think it would feel entirely too hypocritical. Plus I don't really like doing things by rote, so much. Not things that I care about.

If anyone could explain to me the difference you think such a post would make, I'd be very glad to listen.

As I've said on other journals asking the same thing: I don't even look at memes, I just page down. I'm much more interested in what my friends think than in their ability to mindlessly copy-paste.

If anything, I think it's a good sign that so many on my friends list are asking this question--it shows that we're not mindless sheep :D

Here's what I think of the whole matter (http://tea-and-snark.livejournal.com/235493.html). See, it's already catching on! (http://briebribeez.livejournal.com/480747.html)

Yeah. I want to know who the "we" is who'd like to know, what good it's going to do, and why they wrote it so combatively.

I'm sorry, but if I'm going to be posting something that I didn't write in my LJ, it's either going to be fucking brilliant and worthy of sharing, or so stupid it's going to make everybody laugh. It's not going to be a meme that takes up monitor space, especially when I'm pretty sure everybody who has me friended knows how I feel about gay rights.

I rather believe the point of the meme is to let people feel good about themselves as Tolerant Humin Beens Doin Their Part For Teh Gayz without, you know, actually having to do anything.

I didn't say anything on my own journal to avoid wank, but this is what I thinkin about that meme, as said in a comment in the journal of one of the Wraeththuites for whom I started out on LJ in the first place, back in 2003...

I find the proliferation of the meme/complaining about the meme extremely tiresome, and I find the wording goofy.

Not, "I support gay rights," but "I believe in gay rights."

Uh. I like in America in 2006. I believe in gay rights almost exactly like I believe in Santa Claus. As in, I wish he existed, but the evidence of my senses is disappointing.

If I believe in Gay Rights does that mean I don't get socks in my stocking at Christmas?

Word. I'm all for gay rights (hell, this is fandom- who around here isn't, really?) but I hate the whole copy-and-paste meme that keeps spamming up my flist, so I'm mostly just ignoring the whole thing.
