It doesn't make a difference, but I have to second raggedass_road in that it's not uncommon nowadays for people to say things like "Oh - the zip is stuck." So you'd be safe either way although the traditional noun is zipper.
"Zip" for the verb, "zipper" for the noun, "this f*&^ing thing, I swear to God it's got part of my arm hair stuck in it" for the kind found on sleeping bags.
