*flails*

I am procrastinating horribly because I have reached a point in my story where sex must be committed and I fear writing sex beyond all else. Sense dictates that I go find examples of a like nature, read through them for pointers, but brain dictates that were I to do so I would become quite horrendously intimidated and wind up never finishing the fic, ever.

I just need a hook, really. A way to start the section, just a sentence or two to get me over the hump and start me writing and I'm sure I'll be fine; I'm coming to terms with the fact that things needn't be perfect first time and that I can fix it up in the edit. It's just that I'm so fretful about this in particular that if I started deleting I would most likely get rid of the entire scene and be just exactly where I started.

...good lord, I become quite horrifically English when I'm panicking, don't I?

XD

If it bothers you so much, just don't try to write graphic sex- just something vague- they held each other etc.

Ah yeah, writing smut can be pretty difficult if it's one of your fears as an author. I used to be the type that would write about a kiss, then get a nosebleed; now all my work is basically M-NC-17. ^^

Don't be intimidated by the material out there, use it as a learning curve; what you like, what you don't, spot the stuff that's so horrific it makes you want to gouge out your eyeballs and NEVER use it in your own writing. Stuff like that. Best of luck.

P.S. I meant to tell you earlier that a friend of mine referred me to your journal and I liked your writing so much, I friended you. ^^

You do! It's kind of cute. :)

Anyway -- I don't write smut either as a general rule, but I can give you advice that's helped me in the past on occasions when I had no idea how to start the section I was trying to write.

Pick a single inanimate object in the scene and describe it. Not necessarily an object of any particular significance to the events, and not in any fulsome detail, just a simple visual. Furniture's good for this sometimes.

This may not help at all for this kind of scene, but I thought I'd toss it at you and see if maybe it did. :)?

That is an awesome tactic.

Nny, if you're about, how's it coming?

Completely belated comment: I usually (by which I mean three times now) write a brief outline of the sex scene, like who does what to whom, who comes first, etc. When you have that, it's much easier to add the little details, feelings, physical sensations and all that stuff. It's the only way I can write porn that isn't horrible. :)
