Here comes the sun (baby baby baby)
Jul. 7th, 2007 01:06 pmIt's summer, it seems. How delightful!
The esteemed fambly have all headed off Londonwards to see Sir Justin of Timberlake shake whatever it is he has to shake, tonight. They're also going to see the Antony Gormley exhibition thing, which I am rather more jealous about; I have asked for postcards but I doubt they'll be remembered.
In their absence I've decided to - unless I receive any phonecalls from the lass at work - settle myself in the garden in a sun chair and read the newly arrived Chrestomanci books, which I'm dreadfully excited about. I've read two of them before, but I bought all four of them for about a tenner and it's so completely glorious to lose myself in them. I wish my mental worlds were as rich and varied as Diana Wynne Jones'. I once formed a crush based almost entirely on the fact that the lad was called Christopher Chant. :D
Then for tonight I have three bottles of pear cider - it was on offer - and I suspect I'll end up getting faintly tipsy and watching Thoughtcrimes. It's become something of a tradition. No idea what I'll eat yet, since I neglected to get anything out of the freezer; I might try and think of something to do with all the mushrooms we've got in the bottom of the fridge. Then again, I might be hideously decadent and order myself some chinese, or a Dominos.
The world is my mollusc. Today's a good day.

Date: 2007-07-07 05:33 pm (UTC)I read Cart and Cwidder back then, too, although I don't remember the slightest thing about it, and Dogsbody, which I suspect was my first DWJ book; I'll have to read it again sometime because it's really been years. My favourite, I think, is still Archer's Goon, though, and I've lost my copy and it's distressing me mightily. Torquil is just so very, very cool.
I remember it being on the BBC too, when I was young. I didn't watch the whole series, but I remember the bit at the end, with the typewriter. :D

Date: 2007-07-07 05:47 pm (UTC)I really need to reread Archer's Goon. SO GOOD. I don't remember what my favorite was when I was small (though AG was up there), but these days, it's definitely The Homeward Bounders, which I would really heartily recommend too. It's all about alternate universes, and there's the Flying Dutchman and the Wandering Jew and Greek mythology all thrown in there, and it's utterly fabulous.
I heard that it was on the BBC! I've always wanted to see it, but old BBC productions are hard to get hold of. *scowly*

Date: 2007-07-07 06:22 pm (UTC)Once you go DWJ, you never go back. . . . well, yes, okay, you do. To other things. It is not like one is trapped in a Wynne Jones-tastic vortex. Although admittedly that would be fun. But you know what I mean!
