There is a circle of hell reserved for musical snobs. I love music. I think after reading, and maybe dreaming, listening to music is my favourite thing in the whole world. It is so incredibly important to me, and can affect my mood in such a positive way. I can be in the foulest, most bitch-ridden mood ever, and can put on something like "the impression that I get" by the Mighty Mighty Bosstones and dance around like a weevil on crack.

What I hate, though, is people that won't give music a chance. My flatmate, who won't listen to "novelty" music, and therefore misses out on everything They Might Be Giants have written. Her boyfriend, who refuses to listen to any classical that anyone's heard of.

That's what really gets me. People who play the "I know of a more obscure band than you" game. People who won't listen to bands with a record deal. People who claim that a band has "sold out" even though they sound the same as they ever did, there're just more people listening.

I guess they're the ones missing out.

I'm sorry I'm ranting lately. But I guess it's okay, because I don't have the energy or the vitriol to sustain it fr any length of time. *g*

I have a kind of haphazard approach to music. My sister has the most ecleptic taste in music I've ever come accross - Britney Spears all the way through to Marrilyn Manson. No, seriously - and I guess I'm kind of effected by her. I'll listen to just about anything that has a beat. I go to classical orchestra recitals with my dad, I go to Oasis concerts with my friends, I listen to everything else at home.

As for the 'I know of a more obscure band than you do' I know a lot of people like that. There's a group of kids in my year that spend most of their time digging through stacks and stacks of records, cds and tapes trying to find a band no one's heard of. The result is, most of the time, that the band is obscure for a reason - they're crap.

*goes off into her own little rant*

Ranting is good. ^_^ Don't worry. Be happy *sings*

What a lovely attitude. I've been biting my tongue on a completely hypocritical, holier-than-thou bitch!rant against holier-than-thou music snobs... sigh

My reactions to music (and most everything, actually) are completely emotional. Just had the biggest surge of sadness/joy listening to an STP song, for example... Was nearly in tears this morning because of all of the hate for 80s new wave.

should stop being so psychotic. sorry for popping up randomly in your blog, making weird comments, but, as i said in hp100, i decided to seek out for of your work....

livejournal makes me feel like a stalker. -_-;;
